Spotlight on species
In Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen, key features include a regionally important lesser horseshoe bat colony, important wintering wildfowl populations at Llandegfedd Reservoir and one of the most southerly breeding sites for red grouse in the UK. Other notable species include bee orchid, lapwing, adder, otter, barn owl, badger, great crested newt, brown banded carder bee, water ladybird, Silurian moth, brown hawker dragonfly and the scarce bluetailed damselfly.
