Funded by Welsh Government, Local Places for Nature is in its fourth year of supporting nature recovery. The funding is awarded to the LNP and managed by local authorities. Activities have included woodland, wetland and grassland restoration, tree and orchard planting, changes to public grasslands to enhance biodiversity and native bulb planting.
Over the past few years, Torfaen County Borough Council has been working with Bron Afon Community Housing to identify sites suitable for tree planting, including consulting local residents to find out where they would like to see new trees. Together they have planted over 16 000 trees so far and plan to continue for at least the next two years.
Local Nature Partnership members will work together to deliver this landscape scale project over the next two years. We plan to improve habitats and connectivity for a range of species that are declining locally and nationally, including marsh fritillary butterfly, barn owls, swifts and a number of other species.
